Yes, some people no doubt take their koan practice differently than you take your non-koan practice. Let's see your koan. I'm sure we all could use a good laugh!
No irony intended. I know, a rarity.
desert_woodworker wrote: (my, have you ever got the wrong end of the stick, there).
Someone here might say no differentiation.
desert_woodworker wrote: My teachers could be stern, but not heartless, not cold. After passing a koan, we could both laugh.
Hard to see how you didn't make this to be about the wonderfulness of yourself.

Just saw the "bottom-line" Joe, we have a pigeon that's called Dapper, an outside bird no pet, meaning "brave" in Dutch,

Here's Fuki and Dapper

Marcel, btw, "Dapper Dan" is an old figure in relatively recent USA folklore. Dunno about elsewhere.

There's a clothes-designer of the name in Harlem (not Haarlem). Some more modern aka's too.

Not so much a joke as a funny.

My shop and tool-room is not the most organized, but usually I can find tools that I need, when I need them (sometimes by digging, and then finding other interesting fossils not seen in years, too).

But I received another mailing from a specialty tools outfit, announcing, "Hard-to-Find Tools Sale!".

"Hard to find tools?" No. I've got enough of those already.

Fuki, don't hunch those shoulders much of the time, Jimbo.

I've got some Sheng Yen exercises for ya... so does Guo Gu.

I hope you'll meet HIM, before you meet me! So, prepare yourself... .

Ah, that's gonna be good.

Drop me a line if you like, and I'd drop more cards and letters on you, but I dunno if they'll land at the neighbor's place instead, or not, as last time. Can this be prevented? Eh? Eh?

For this "Jokes" thread, and thus, for staying on-topic, let me then say, for example, let's see, ,

Generally, a person who hasn't known his own mind hasn't missed much. And, more power to him/her!

Strong practice,

Cool the learn about the various Dapper Dan manifests Joe, humans are funny word-creative creatures.
And regarding "meeting" you and/or Guo Gu, hey you have my address, I'm always up spending a summer evening together with some-one-not-two who has nothing to do and nowhere to go.

ps last "Guo Gu" exercise popped something in my leg and back, was good after a few weeks, but now I'm back to what comes natural instead of mimicking or seeking things through "others", I've been mimicking some of my cats vibrations which produced much better results then the dharma practise of wordly people and phantom leaders-followers :P :cat:

Assuming this is a joke -- as it's in the Jokes thread -- good one!

I may be the worldly practitioner, but at least Guo Gu was a monk and closest attendent of a Ch'an master for most of his young life. I would have done it, too, but I was already in a career, and thought that if I gave that up, that would be a large karmic error. Some things are natural, and ought not to be trashed. It turned out to be fine, indeed, to be and to develop as a lay Bodhisattva. At least, so far. It may all change tomorrow. Or, yesterday, if it turns out that I'm slow on the uptake.

Zen Master Dogen cautions, "Take heed! Do not squander your life".

What on earth did he have in mind? But this is not the thread to discuss that. :)

No-joke!

I was simply referring to the natural way of being in the presence of cats, horses etc which are energy channels and communicating with them (as well as trees) is beyond what most humans are capable of (or just forgot), within that communication one can also learn to heal physical injuries and learn more natural postures according to the needs of the individual (instead of uniformed "postures") just like elephants "feet" cats "whiskers" can teach you so much or at least pick up some neat tricks forgotten by the human animal, or else I'm just "evolving"naturally :cat:

So Joe, no, this ofcourse wasn't in opposition of anything you mentioned just a reference that many things zen teachers adviced me, where actually just crappy advice, and I should "flow-stick" with being naturally intuitive instead of "practising" things I already know are not functional or even harmful.

Dogen was an interesting fella, he was keen on people seeing things the way he did (don't we all) ;)

The nature of being is beyond play-words;
Attachments to any doctrine or concept
Is merely a matter of self-confusion.
Unshackling the fetter of the knower-and-the-known, Whatever I become and wherever I remain,
I shall always be happy and contented.
