—Thomas Carlyle, Past and PresentTo reform a world, to reform a nation, no wise man will undertake; and all but foolish men know, that the only solid, though a far slower reformation, is what each begins and perfects on himself.

Re: Words of Wisdom
Russell KirkA norm means an enduring standard. It is a law of nature, which we ignore at our peril. It is a rule of human conduct and a measure of public virtue. The norm does not signify the average, the median, the mean, the mediocre. The norm is not the conduct of the average sensual man. A norm is not simply a measure of average performance within a group. There is law for man, and law for thing, the norm for the wasp and the snake is not the norm for man. A norm exists: though men may ignore or forget a norm, still that norm does not cease to be, nor does it cease to influence men. A man apprehends a norm, or fails to apprehend it; but he does not create or destroy important norms.

So blue is the ocean,
Infinite is the mind.
So bright are the heavens,
Luminous is the mind.
Expanse of heaven
Meets with deep blue ocean.
Union at horizon
Takes me beyond breath.
Heaven is bullshit.
And hell the religion of fear.
Man needs no God
Freedom is innate.

"I might suggest that Ethic is not the path of depth development and wholeness. As used, Ethic is an elaborate mind filled defense system, a separatio, a containment that leads to neurosis and illness in its worst form – a weapon by the mind against the body and to half a development in its best form. Perhaps Ethics impose timing until conscious maturation is achieved. Spontaneous expression is a mantle worn by the Gods and Goddesses and the Masters and Mistresses of the Art. What do Ethics have to do with Divinity manifesting in form? The Dance is Male/Female – not Mind/Body" - Brugh Joy, MD

Re: Words of Wisdom
"But the fear of the inexplicable has not only impoverished the individual; it has also narrowed the relationship between one human being and another, which has as it were been lifted out of the riverbed of infinite possibilities and set down in a fallow place on the bank, where nothing happens. For it is not only indolence that causes human relationships to be repeated from case to case with such unspeakable monotony and boredom; it is timidity before any new, inconceivable experience, which we don't think we can deal with. But only someone who is ready for everything, who doesn't exclude any experience, even the most incomprehensible, will live the relationship with another person as something alive and will himself sound the depths of his own being."

that the light behind her was her own light
He hadn’t seen her before then, even though
he had always known her, thousands of years
are really nothing, time is a lie
He was standing, frozen in place, until she
put her mouth against his heart and breathed
It was then that the tiny invisible creatures
who had been accompanying him flew up
and made a singing circle around her
It was like a halo in an icon of Oriental Orthodoxy
a lush luminous embrace that made her own light
expand to take him in, and she took him in
If anyone was standing near, they would not have heard
any word, and when the peacocks called from their perch
in the old oak, the fortunate bystanders would slowly
emerge from their trance and for a timeless moment
not know where they were, who they were —
that is real love, to be that lost
This is how we are now, sweetly entranced or not,
we are completely innocent, we can hold our hands up
we can look at each other and not turn away
The light which flows from our hands is pure
the light which spools out from our eyes
covers the whole earth in blessings
Whatever we hear is our own song come back to us
it is filled with care and comfort, for our way
is sometimes very difficult
Every brimming tear is a wistful sort of story,
how wonderful it is to be able to cry
Whether it seems so or not, whatever we touch
is smiling within itself, is happy right now —
happy just to be touched, to be alive, alive
If you ask us, this is what we will say

Although hundreds or thousands of explanations are given,
There is only one thing to be understood –
Know the one thing that liberates everything –
Awareness itself, your true nature.

Going nowhere but ceasing to be,
Waves of conceptualization, all the mind's creation, dissolve,
When you behold your mind's true nature.

Re: Words of Wisdom
''The way to truth lies through the destruction of the false. To destroy the false, you must question your most inveterate beliefs. Of these the idea that you are the body is the worst. With the body comes the world, with the world - God, who is supposed to have created the world and thus it starts - fears, religions, prayers, sacrifices, all sorts of systems - all to protect and support the child-man, frightened out of his wits by monsters of his own making. Realize that what you are cannot be born nor die and with the fear gone, all suffering ends.'' -- Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
Re: Words of Wisdom
Not one quote by a Zen Teacher so far. Interesting.
Here's a few:
"In this very moment, what is truly lacking?" ~~Huang Po
"The real you, a man with no characteristics, is always going in and out through the doors of your face." ~~Lin Chi.
"Not knowing is the most intimate". ~~Dizhang
"If you consider quietude right and commotion wrong, then this is seeking the real aspect by destroying the worldly aspect, seeking nirvana, the peace of extinction, apart from birth and death. When you like the quiet and hate the hubbub, this is just the time to apply effort. Suddenly when in the midst of hubbub, you topple the scene of quietude -- that power surpasses the (meditation) seat and cushion by a million billion times." ~~Dahui.
"Outside, don’t get tangled in things.
Inside, don’t get lost in emptiness.
Be still and become One
And all opposites disappear.
If you stop moving to become still,
This stillness always moves.
If you hold on to opposites,
How can you know One?
If you don’t understand One,
This and that cannot function.
Denied, the world asserts itself.
Pursued, emptiness is lost.
The more you think and talk,
The more you lose the Way.
Cut off all thinking
And pass freely anywhere.
Return to the root and understand.
Chase appearances and lose the source.
One moment of enlightenment
Illuminates the emptiness before you." Seng Tsan
"In stillness and serenity words are forgotten,
What is before me appears in bright clarity.
Looking closely things become spacious,
Feeling deeply life becomes vibrant.
Life’s vibrancy is bright of itself,
This brightness reveals the wonder:
Moonlight in the dew, stars in a river,
Snow on the pines, clouds on a peak.
Through darkness things are bright and
Through concealment they are ever more manifest -
A crane dreaming in the winter mist,
Autumnal waters, sounding from afar.
Endless kalpas are utterly empty
And all is totally the same.
When wonder dwells within the stillness,
Striving is forgotten within the brightness." ~~Hongzhi
"To study the Buddha Way is to study the self. To study the self is to forget the self. To forget the self is to be actualized by myriad things. When actualized by myriad things, your body and mind as well as the bodies and minds of others drop away. No trace of enlightenment remains, and this no-trace continues endlessly.” ~~Dogen
