The Social Media Sutra

Thus have I heard! Once the Blessed One was browsing different forums and social medias such as Facebook, Reddit and Twitter. He then addressed the Noble assembly, saying;

"Monks, a post endowed with five factors is well-posted and not ill-posted. Which five? It is proofread to avoid dumb mistakes. Its claims, quotes and stats are fact-checked. Its links are checked for accessibility. Its media is used with permission or falls within fair use. Its content is constructive and relevant for the intended audience.”

The Noble assembly agreed, praising the words of the Blessed One, saying;

"Indeed! One should post only that by which one would not torment oneself nor harm others. That post is indeed well-posted. Yet, is not admonishment of that post which is not skillful itself skillful?”

The Blessed One, having heard this said;

"A Noble one who desires to admonish a post of another with a reply of their own should do so after contemplating five factors of the reply. What are the five factors? Its focus is on the argument, and not the poster. It is funny, yet not offensive. It does not create fallacies. It is delivered at the right time. It does not deviate from the current topic. A reply with these five factors fully contemplated is indeed skillful.”

That is what the Blessed One said. Gratified, the monks delighted at his words.

oh sure. But, what is the problem with talking to each other. Who is it that needs to quote an authority figure.
