Re: My cat is a buddha

Cats are so cool. Masters of their little attentions. Ignoring us half the time we try to get their little attentions but still hearing us. No they are not little buddhas. Buddha body's not Buddha minds. This saying is incorrect. Flawed. Anyone can write philosophy or imagine concepts. To be or not ...

Re: Calming the Mind

You missed my sentence on bipolar. Here is your sentence, (4/24, 8:39): Got my prescription for my so called bipolar. Without spin, "so called" just means you doubt it. So called means mental illness is only true within the framework of narrow minded attention. So called means the past which is not...

Re: Differing views of shikantaza

shikantaza is simply Buddha body sitting. The aware physical body devoid of mind. The attention. Replaced by no mind. Awareness. The body is automatically aware because its energy is aware. Let not force the aware energy of the physical body to totally relax. Being aware does not make life beautiful...

Re: Calming the Mind

People that have a mental illness are not totally insane. Just aspects of them are not sane. I have listened closely to mentally Ill people many times. Within their ramblings I usually find truths about them as to why they are like they are. Offering suggestions to help if I can. They don't disturb ...

Re: Calming the Mind

No mental illness can exist within the framework of the aware being. It just is thoughts and imagination. Only within the structure of attention does it. Where people obsess, over focus, think some imagined is real or can't get rid of a thought. So the answer Lay's in this statement. Let my aware en...

Re: Calming the Mind

Imagined. You're no judge of that. [james] has a long track record here of lucid and insightful commenting that all would attest to, and I do mean all, and for self-evident reasons. Trying to demonstrate or tout wisdom and understanding while also battling mental illness is, to say the least, probl...

Re: Calming the Mind

And the gong bell at the zen temple rings forth and you hear it regardless if you want. In that moment the Buddha is aware because he hears it regardless. Aware.

Re: Calming the Mind

A flat earth infinite in expanse, a moon sun destroyed that is half a ball, a sun traveling the lands. Because your imaginations were told otherwise you believe. When asking a unknowing child where is the sun. Right up there. In our atmosphere. I believed all you believed but now I cannot see differ...

Re: Calming the Mind

Why would a person want to focus awareness? It handles everything. Because a person can. Why not? Awareness need not exclude attentiveness. If you can tell me a single reason to pay attention instead of just being aware. One reason and we go from there. Doubt, uncertainty, curiosity, intimacy. Awar...

Re: Calming the Mind

So why would a person desire to focus the aware energy to form an attention when its aware? Like legs on a snake a utterly useless attachment for the highly intelligent race of mankind. Well, for example, zen teachers do this all the time on behalf of their students, with instructions to focus on t...

Re: Calming the Mind

They say where mind goes energy follows. True. The more pronounced a persons attention the more uptight and high strung and intense that person is. But where aware energy goes physical nervous system energy goes. So again. Physical nervous system energy is not the spirit. But I said aware. The body ...

Re: Calming the Mind

Imagination. Because we see adults with attentions and are taught this and animals as children we create one with our imaginations. Seeing those TV shows and people with intense focus. So we solidify the imagined attention by also focusing nervous system energy. A desire to relax but also a desire t...

Re: Calming the Mind

I hope all's going to be well . As far as calming the mind is concerned, well, there is no mind. Claims to the contrary are wholly and beautifully mistaken. To see this, well, maybe just ...breathe... . Dunno if this will work for all readers, here. If so, just send one Dollar to Joe. If not, send ...

Re: Calming the Mind

Your smarter somehow then Siddhartha? Don't know. Never talked with him. Your smarter then the zen masters who know reincarnation is a reality. You study zen but doubt the teachings? Well that's ego for you not to self understand. Oh I see your adopting the not know weird zen approach. Maybe there ...

Re: Calming the Mind

One foundation of zen is reincarnation. Perhaps another foundation of zen is doubt. Reincarnation is a powerful metaphor. Per my favorite verse from Goethe: So lang du das nicht hast dieses: stirb und verde, Bist du nur ein truber gast auf diesen dunkeln erde. As long as you do not know how to die ...

Re: Calming the Mind

Hmm. I think "Zen" has no "foundations". Anyway, the fewer the better! Foundations are places for the moving ship to run aground. :) (oh, not nice of me). Another thing is that there is no ..."Zen". But, there is Ch'an- and Zen- Buddhist practice . Practice... What may result in practice is awakeni...
