Re: What is mind and what place has no thought in no mind?

Don't play too much with the words or especially with the word thought. Or you will get lost in the words or thoughts. Better try to live it. If you can't, find a way -to live it. At the end of my search, Here i've find a way of living it. https://zen1.space/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=748 Or that i'm bei...

Re: Zen versus Mindfulness?

Still I believe that Zen stands upon the three. Teachings, Practice and Enlightenment. If you believe they have all three then it must be the same. It can't be just about Mindfulness So, who is enlightened? You think these teachers are enlightened? You trust your practice to them? Why? This is not ...

Re: Zen versus Mindfulness?

Except where the Zen Master (or Thien) teaches it. As noted earlier Thich Nhat Hanh co-developed "mindfulness meditation" with Jon Kabat-Zinn (also a Zen practicioner) and that's what you learn in his Nhat Hanh's sangha. My paper work when i took 3 refuge and 5 precepts clearly says Lam Te Dhyana (...

Sorry, did not mean to distract from one's practice.
My beliefs are probably wrong.
Please ignore.

Joe-
My questions are of an inquiry to how close one needs to be with a teacher to benefit from them.
And also, want to know can anyone benefit from those videos on youtube?

Re: Zen versus Mindfulness?

Mindfulness movement is not Zen. The methods used in Zen are being used in a way, by the mindfulness movement, that science can see actual benefits But, it is not the same although they may use similar activity. Zen is the teachings, practice and enlightenment The practice by itself is not Zen Nor i...

Re: What is mind and what place has no thought in no mind?

No replies, no help Only the unjust answers. I don't pretend to know the answer But here are my speculations. You can correct me or give another opinion. From moment to moment, thoughts arise about our experiences and where one goes and what one does and so on and so forth So where do these thoughts...

What is mind and what place has no thought in no mind?

What is mind?
How does one recognize this mind? See its existence?
Realize the truth about it?

And what place does no thought have in no mind?
Have heard so many say that no thought is the key
And have heard so many say that no thought is like an iron rod hit over the head method

Have seen many of Ch'an Master Sheng Yen's videos ... in Mandarin Chinese.
He has many videos on Youtube
Don't believe he spoke English well.
Did you spend time with him directly??
Did you have translators when you were with him??
Did this make it harder to learn or easier??

Sadness and loss strikes out to reach the hearts of others to feel compassion Like shooting stars, they are brilliant and short lived Going over it and over it in the mind keeps the feelings alive This too should pass If it does not pass then the mind creates a sort of madness Keep going over the lo...

Zen ... whether it is Soto or Rinzai or anything ... As in the book written by Philip Kapleau, Three Pillars of Zen Teaching, Practice and Enlightenment Zen is not Zen without the three pillars So what value is there in Kensho? Being part of the three pillars, it supports Zen Being only one of three...

Who would Buddha be without Mara? Is that not taking a dualistic view of the world of Buddhism? Light and dark?? One can not be without the other?? To me Karma is like living in the water Whatever you do, you make waves Whatever the wave, good or bad That is what follows To end Karma, come out of t...
